BHMS Course Overview

Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) is an undergraduate degree program which students can apply for, after completing their higher secondary education. This program imparts knowledge on how to enhance the natural healing process of the body and is a pseudoscientific branch of medical studies.

Applicants who wish to study homeopathy are eligible to apply for a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) degree after finishing high school. One has to maintain at least a 55% merit score for the same and clear entrance examinations like NEET, BVP CET, IPU CET, or PU CET. BHMS is a 5-and-a-half-year regular course comprising 1-year internship for the students.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is the branch of paramedical science. The approach of the homeopathic medical system is holistic. The diagnostic procedure of homeopathy involves treatment by enhancing the natural healing system of the body. Applicants of this field are highly trained professionals that prescribe homeopathy medicines to their patients for various kinds of diseases.

How Many Courses are there in BHMS?

BHMS course is an undergraduate degree program and there are no other courses under it. Hence, students who choose to study Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery, are able to earn an undergraduate degree at the end of their course.

BHMS Eligibility Criteria

In order to study BHMS, a candidate must qualify for their class 10th and class 12th exams from a recognised board. He or she must also have Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as their core subjects in class 12 and achieve at least a minimum of 50% aggregate score. The minimum age to study this course is 17 years.

Students who are willing to pursue the BHMS course and belong to General/SC/ST/OBC categories have to pass their 10+2 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as their core subjects.

A minimum of 50% aggregate marks must be obtained and the NEET exam must be cleared by the aspiring candidate.

Students belonging to reserved categories must secure at least 40% in their 10+2 or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as their main subjects.

Candidates cannot be less than 17 years of age on or before December 31 of the particular year they are applying for admission.

There is an upper age limit for gaining admission to the BHMS course which is 25 years with 5 years of relaxation for reserved categories i.e. SC/ST/OBC.

The qualifying NEET percentile for general candidates is 50th percentile while SC/ST/OBC candidates must score at least 40th percentile.

BHMS Course Admission Process

Students can gain admission to BHMS courses through entrance exams. There are various tests that are conducted at the state and national levels.

All the aspirants passing the entrance exam are ranked according to their merit score.

After passing the entrance examination, candidates are called for a counselling round.

During the counselling session, students are asked about their list of 3 preferred colleges for admission.

Based on the ranks of the candidates, they are granted admission to any one college from their preferred list.

Some colleges, before the final admission, hold a personal interview round with each eligible candidate.

During the interview session, the individual faces questions from the syllabus that helps the interviewer to understand how clearly the candidate understands basic concepts of the subject.
