CAT

Common Admission Test (CAT) is the entrance exam for aspiring candidates who desire to make a career in management and business administration i.e. MBA. This examination is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on a rotational basis.

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree with minimum 50 per cent aggregate or equivalent CGPA (45 per cent aggregate for SC, ST and PWD/DA category) from a recognized university to appear in CAT.

CAT exam syllabus includes three subjects – Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Aptitude (QA). These sections cover all the basic sub topics which one has studied in school.

An entry to the MBA world requires the candidates to appear for entrance exams of which the most popular is the CAT or Common Admission Test. The CAT Score allows the candidate to be eligible for most of the best B-Schools in India including the IIMs which hold the CAT Exam.

The advantage of CAT Exam is that the candidates appearing for the exam can use their score to get into several other colleges apart from IIMs. Colleges in and around 23 states in India accept CAT Score and admit students based on merit.

120 Minutes Exam: CAT is a computer delivered test of 2 hours duration but it is not an Online Exam.CAT exam will have 66 questions divided in 3 sections of VARC, DILR and Quantitative Ability. Earlier it used to have 100 questions divided in three sections.

The CAT can be taken only once every year on a date specified by the convening IIM. The date on which the CAT will be conducted is announced by the convening IIM in July or August of every year. There is no restriction on the number of attempts you can take the CAT and no upper age limit.
